In 2011, JLT Group donated £407,890 to charity. Jardine Lloyd Thompson encourages employees to engage in charitable activities and provides support in three ways:
Matching employee fundraising
JLT will match pound for pound any amount raised by our UK employees in fundraising activities they undertake for charity up to a maximum of £2,500. In 2011, £113,000 was spent matching employee charity activities. This is seen as a key aspect of the charity and community strategy. JLT provides a Give-As-You-Earn scheme which enables UK employees to make regular charitable donations in a tax-efficient manner.
Charity through action
All UK employees are able to take advantage of a ‘Charity Day’, this gives them one day every year when they can spend company time helping a charity or working in the local community. A highlight of 2011 was the support that JLT’s Mumbai office has given to the local Udaan School for underprivileged children, where employees provide transportation to and from the school for the children as well as spending time teaching and coaching.
Donations and special requests
Finally, the Group Charities Committee considers a wide range of requests from local, national and international charities for donations or support for specific projects. In the UK a further £54,000 was donated to specific charity activities.
