3rd February 2012, London: Devon County Council has used the JLT Investment Consulting (JLT) Manager search service, SWIM (Search Work on Investment Managers), to appoint Aviva Investors as its real estate multi-manager manager to oversee the whole of the Devon County Councils Pension Fund property portfolio.
A spokesperson from Devon County Council, said "We decided to use the services of JLT for this search based on their strong reputation for a clear and detailed structured approach in manager analysis. The key factor for the Fund on this occasion was to select a manager who could accommodate the challenges of taking into account the existing stable of property holdings that we have built up over the years. Aviva has a strong and stable business structure, with a lengthy track record in property fund of fund management and a robust investment process that has served them well. Aviva's knowledge of the current Devon property investments and their clarity on the way the portfolio would be managed going forward gave us confidence that they were the right choice."
John Gellatly, Aviva Investors' Head of Real Estate Multi-Manager - Europe, added: "We're delighted that Devon County Council chose us to manage its property portfolio. Our team has over 15 years experience of managing real estate multi-manager portfolios and, as one of the largest managers of UK indirect portfolios, we have the scale and detailed knowledge to work with the existing underlying investments, all of which we already hold positions in. We look forward to working with Devon County Council to deliver a strategy that meets their specific requirements."
SWIM provides a flexible and robust approach in assisting clients in the selection of the asset manager(s) that best meet(s) with the client's requirements for running particular mandates. With a proven track record for success, this reduces the amount of searches a client may be required to make over the long term, thereby reducing the overall costs to the pension fund.
John Finch, JLT Divisional Director JLT Investment Solutions said, "The exercise brought out strong responses from a wide variety of asset managers and from our observations and knowledge we believe that Aviva Investors were, on this occasion, the best equipped to meet with the expectations of Devon County Council."
