First Impressions of JLT -

When I first arrived for my interview and eventually my first day I was really impressed by the offices and how professional everything looked. The staff seemed proud to represent the company and really confirmed for me that this company could offer me a long and successful career.

What's your role -

As part of actuarial delivery I am required to check data, prepare numbers and reports for clients and deal with individual member calculations and queries. I am also expected to regularly keep up my study for the actuarial exams to ensure I progress through the qualification.

What have you done since you've started -

In the three months since I started at JLT I have been on in house training courses to help gain a more complete understanding of the work and legal requirements. The training has also helped me to gain a more full understanding of the roles of other colleagues in the office which also aides me in my day to day job.

I have been involved with actuarial and accounting funding updates for Schemes between their valuations, both in terms of calculations and preparing reports. Also I deal with individual member queries by calculating pension benefits and most recently was heavily involved in a full Scheme valuation.

Social Side -

The Leeds office has a social committee who organise regular events to bring together everyone who works for JLTEB in Leeds. Pool tournaments and quizzes have been organised along with numerous nights out. The friendly office makes it a good atmosphere to work in and settling into the team was really easy.

Advice to future applicants -

My advice would be to study the role and be aware of what would be expected of a successful applicant. Get in touch with someone you know who is doing the role or approach the company itself to gain more information. If an applicant shows an interest and some initiative this shows the employer someone who will work well with others in their office.
